BRINGING OUTDOORS INSIDE AN URBAN SPACE

Wow! This penthouse uses lots of green plants on the outside deck and then brings them inside throughout the space for excellent feng shui. Click the link to see more at Architizer.com

Project – Broadway Penthouse – Architizer – Empowering Architecture: architects, buildings, interior design, materials, jobs, competitions, design schools.

If you’ve been reading Feng Shui By Fishgirl for a long time, you know that plants add ch’i (energy) literally by pumping oxygen into the air. They act as a natural filter to clean and purify air. As long as your plants are thriving, they are great feng shui. If they are stragglers and have lots of wilted, dead leaves it is time to replace them. Round shaped leaves are best for feng shui but sharp and spikey can be used in the Fame & Reputation area.

SYNCHRONICITY AT PLAY

SYNCHRONICITY SYNCHRONICITY AT PLAY "She says we are ALL connected!" ~ Jim Carroll (from his song, "Sisters") Peel away the masks, we are all connected.        When asked what Feng Shui is, I often explain that Feng Shui is not a religion nor is it a form of magic. Feng Shui is a practical method of assessing and improving the quality of our lives through observations and analysis of our home and office environments. That being said, Feng Shui can–and often d … Read More

BATHING BEAUTIES

Aaaaaaahhh.....Kohler.

I’m a bath person all the way. Yes, I take showers. But when I lived in a downtown LA loft for 3 years that had only a shower I used to beg my friends to use their bathtubs for a bubble bath soak every now and then. Here are some wonderful bathtubs for the ultimate fantasy Feng Shui By Fishgirl bathroom home spa. Are you a bath or a shower person?

A free-standing tub by Kohler.

"Riva" oval shaped tub by Jacuzzi comes in several sizes.

"Bari" by Bello Bagno is a very yang shaped tub. Does the tropical setting come with?

This firetruck by American Standard is sure to get boys of all ages excited about bathtime!

Princess tub also by American Standard.

I’M IN LOVE WITH MY VAC

Dyson Animale DC-28

With two medium sized dogs in the house and out of the house all day long (not to mention their playdates!) it’s hard to manage to keep your floors clean and free of pet hair. That’s essential if you want to practice feng shui. My old vacuum cleaner couldn’t keep up. In fact, I think our house killed the poor thing. So when it came time to replace the vac this year I did a ton of online research. Dyson came highly recommended but also highly priced . The Dyson company has a full range of vacs but for pet owners, this one is state-o-the-art. The suction power practically drags you across the room. It has all kinds of filtering technology that takes care of pet hair, pollen, allergens, even mold and returns the vented air fresher than when it went into the vac. And, it’s purple. Purple! I haven’t even begun to play with all the attachments yet but if they’re as easy to use as my Dyson DC-28 Animale was right out of the box, my spring cleaning is going to be a snap! The very first time I used it my carpeting and rugs looked plumped up as if I had gotten them shampooed. Did I mention it’s purple?

GOING TO THE DOGS: $18K-$23K Doghouses

Feng Shui By Fishgirl hopes your feng shui is excellent so you can spend some of that extra cash on your pampered pooch. The luxury doghouses at La Petite Maison give one paws. Elaborate copies of wealthy owners’ homes, they cost between $18,000- $23,000 or more! Believe it or not, less than a mile from my home is a full-sized mansion that is home to the remaining golden retrievers of the late eccentric philanthropist Randall Terry, Jr. He bequeathed millions to charity including a wonderful new veterinary complex opening soon in North Carolina. And he left his house and pool–no kidding–for his dogs to enjoy until they die. There are caretakers who look after the dogs but they do not share the home with them.

CHARLIE SHEEN’S FENG SHUI MELTDOWN

Photo from Wikimedia Commons (click pic for URL)

I was browsing one of my fave blogs today —Hooked on Houses–where I discovered a lot of pictures of Charlie Sheen and his ex’s house that was for sale back in 2009. They divorced soon after. At first glance, the home is gorgeous. Look at it again with feng shui eyes, however, and you will see many feng shui blunders. Am I saying Charlie’s addiction problems could have been cured by feng shui? No, I wouldn’t go on record with that. What feng shui can do is create a safe, supportive, peaceful environment that becomes a solid foundation for your life. If you’re already messed up and you surround yourself with oppressiveness in your home space it could push you in the wrong direction. Take a look at the photos for clues and see if you can tell me what’s wrong with those pictures–and also what you think they got right.

PLANETARY INFLUENCES

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Has anyone else been feeling astrologically battered lately? The news from the mideast is grim, the people of Japan are suffering from the tsunami, the economy is shaky…makes me wanna crawl back into my cave for a couple of years. But it’s gonna be dark in that cave so I decided to look for some lighting. These–all from WeGotLites–are definitely designed with the planets in mind. I wonder if there’s good feng shui on Saturn? Having circular and global shapes definitely adds yin energy to your space to balance out the square angles.

WANNA LIVE IN A MARKED DOWN CASTLE?

Photo from New York Times Magazine

Did you see this photospread in the New York Times Sunday Magazine yesterday? Click here: Europe’s Starter Castles – Slide Show – NYTimes.com. There are castles all over Europe for sale at drastically reduced prices. Seems even Prince Charming lost money in the stock market and needs to unload his country home. You can buy the one above for 30% off what they wanted for it last year. Feng Shui concerns might be removing residual energy from ghosts, getting the place warmed up enough to feel comfy, and furnishing such a large place with enough stuff so it doesn’t feel empty.
