Books and art and feng shui all come together on Feng Shui By Fishgirl. Take this recent installation by Colombian artist Miler Lagos. He constructed an igloo entirely by books. This dome-like installation, named “Home,” was on display at MagnanMetz Gallery in New York City…See some other book art here. And would this outdoor library give you goosebumps?

Here’s a post you *must* find time to read: how we create our own sense of importance by constantly overbooking ourselves to be “too busy” to get together with friends, enjoy life, etc. I think author Tim Kreider is on to something here and I plan to give a copy of his article to all my superbusy friends. I’d write more on the subject but he’s said it wonderfully and after all, I’m too busy: click here for full article.

At first glance Feng Shui By Fishgirl LOVED this outdoor public bookyard (see plenty more pics of it at designboom). Two thumbs up for creativity to designer Massimo Bartolini. Then I started wondering how the effects of climate and weather would take their toll on the books. Ew. Unless it’s in the desert where it hardly ever rains, or, unless there are caretakers covering or removing the books daily, this is probably not such a great idea. What do *you* think?

Stuck in a rut? Feel like life is slipping you by and you don’t know where to begin to change that? Here’s where: rethink your priorities by looking over this List of 50 Questions to Ask Yourself . Marriages mostly begin with the ritual and ceremony of a wedding. Standing up publicly to proclaim your love for each other in front of family and friends and even strangers is a time honored tradition in many cultures. This is a form of setting intentions and stating the good things we wish to manifest as a couple. What happens if we divorce? Divorce can take its toll on both partners and of course if there are children the emotional trauma is often intensified.
What if there were a ceremony that honored the couple’s time together and helped bring closure and dignity to the end of a marriage? According to the New York Times Sunday Magazine article published April 29th more and more couples are untying the marriage knot as formally as they began. The latest trend is to have a Divorce Ceremony. Feng Shui By Fishgirl thinks this idea of mutually setting intentions for parting ways has excellent feng shui merit. I also believe this would go a long way towards healing wounds and freeing up ch’i energy so that everyone involved can move on with their lives in a more positive way. What do you think?

The folks at fengshuiatwork.com put together this infographic and invited me to post it. Which of these facts do you find most interesting? For me it’s most interesting that there are 4 South American nations on the list of most feng shui interest and the USA is not even on the list. I might need to get me to Rio! Meanwhile, speaking of Feng Shui At Work…there is an entire archive of my Feng Shui At Work articles written for Working World Magazine of Los Angeles if you’re looking for some great career advice from Feng Shui By Fishgirl.

Time to get your spring cleaning and feng shui organizing done, people! But you don’t need to throw your books out the window unless you are installation artist Alicia Martin. See more of her books pouring out of buildings here. Meanwhile some tips on cleaning out your library:
* Place books all the way to the front edge of shelves so that you don’t get dust buildup.
*Books and magazines you no longer need (school texts, for example) can be recycled to nursing homes, rec centers, even doctor’s offices. The Goodwill Stores will gladly take them off your hands.
*Make room for new interests by giving away old ones.
*Artists might find your books a great supply of art materials.
*Group books by topics so you can find them easily when you need them.
