This bathroom duo has colortastic punch! Designed by architect Carlo Colombo, the red and purple coloration make it the perfect activator / protector if your bathroom happens to be located in the Wealth sector of your bagua. It would also be suitable in the Love & Relationship sector. It can be harmful to your feng shui to have bathrooms situated in awkward locations. That’s when you call in feng shui practice to help strengthen the positive and counteract the negative.

Are vessel style sinks over? Feng Shui By Fishgirl thinks they have only just begun to catch on. They have yet to become so common that you don’t gasp “Aaaah!” every time you use the powder room at a new friend’s house who happens to have one in their bathroom. Vessel sinks come in a variety of options: metal, glass, porcelain, clay, even wood. All of the elements of feng shui —even fire via use of the color red!–can be harnessed with a vessel sink option. They don’t have to be round, but curves do add to yin yang balance in feng shui terms. We found some good examples at Houzz.com and some handthrown sinks in Maine at Wiltjer Pottery. TINY TOILET TANK A WINNING DESIGN
Fitting a toilet into a small space is a design challenge. If you’re feeling flush, Gerberit has a system that hides the tank within 2 x 4 stud walls so it appears tankless. Go get the full story at Apartment Therapy. And don’t let anyone give you that crap about not being able to design a sleek toilet, okay? 😉

BOTTOMLESS PIT BATHROOM GETS THE SHAFT FROM FISHGIRL
Finally, a bathroom worthy of Shaft himself. This glass floor over an abandoned elevator shaft is a uniquely frightening design idea from Hernandez Silva Architecos. Thank you to Apartment Therapy for making me aware of this post. This aggressive design has many negative aspects to it as far as feng shui goes. Bathrooms in feng shui provide problems because of their capacity for draining away our good ch’i energy. What could be worse than having a giant draining hole in your bathroom? This bathroom has the sink drain, the toilet drain, and the elevator shaft drain. I don’t see a shower or tub in the photos. The other feng shui problem is a preponderance of water element. Mirrors and glass symbolize water (as does actual water, duh!). The water element here is flood-like and that also contributes to the uneasiness felt in this room. Trust your instincts: if a space makes you feel uncomfortable, it doesn’t have good feng shui. How does this bathroom make you feel?

WALLPAPER NOT SMALLPAPER
Want to add some Creativity and style to your bathroom for good feng shui? Think bold wallpaper! Apartment Therapy shows you some fabulous examples for huge impact in a small space. This technique is also good for disguising imperfections in your plaster walls. Feng Shui By Fishgirl loves it because wallpaper is an inexpensive way to add art and personality to your powder room. And we all know that art lifts ch’i (energy)—great feng shui! See more at the link below:

FUN SHUI SHOWER CURTAINS
If you’re into octopi (and who isn’t?), here’s an octopus shower curtain to go with your octopus chair. Now you simply need an octopus’s garden ringtone and you’re good to go.
If your bathroom is located in the Creativity & Future Projects & Children sector of your home, there’s no better way to activate the fun shui than this pocket filler curtain. Simply add your own art (or your kid’s art) or postcards or other fun stuff and start smiling. Urban Outfitters has several other cool curtain options as well.
No doubt an homage to “Psycho” and a big hit at Halloween parties, this bloody shower curtain and bathroom area rug are funny but NOT good feng shui. I’ll include the link to Think Geek in case you don’t care about your feng shui. Nobody ever accuses Feng Shui By Fishgirl of not having a sense of humor…
I found this source for handpainted shower curtains. The one pictured here is $115. You can probably commission your own idea at Shower Curtain Art if you can’t find one from the huge selection of handpainted curtains on the site.
Fabric shower curtains over plastic liners are a classy way to go. You can choose your own fabrics over at Posh Living. This fun red stripe works well in bathrooms located in areas of the bagua where red is an activator. Wealth, Fame, and Love areas would all benefit from this choice.
