Year of the Dog 2018

Kung Hei Fat Choy! As is my custom here at Feng Shui By Fishgirl, each Chinese New Year I feature the art of my dear friend Po Ping T’so Lo in Hong Kong. This year Po has deftly captured the Year of the Dog (maybe because the two adorable pups in the painting are portraits of her own pets). Gratitude to this wonderful artist and friend for giving me permission to publish her artwork.

Every cliche you hear about actual dogs– loyalty, honesty, doggedness, helpful and steadfast friend, playful nature, good appetite, intelligence, protective of loved ones, unconditional love– is true for people born under this sign, too.

Whatever you sign, may you find true love, true health, and true luck in the Year of the Dog!

Happy Year of the Rooster

©Po Ping Lo 2017 Year of the Rooster

Every year my friend Po Ping Lo does a gorgeous rendition of that year’s Chinese New Year symbol and graciously allows me to post her art work here. This year CNY begins on January 28, 2017 and is the Year of the Rooster. Thank you, Po!

2017 is a fire rooster year. Prepare for it by strengthening your personal appearance, embracing the rooster values of loyalty, commitment, and family values. You will be challenged to be very precise about your belief systems, your intentions for your love & relationships must be crystal clear, and you should be ready to fend off shady characters who will appear as tricksters in business, finance, and the internet. In other words, be a good rooster and watch all your chickens!

ACTIVATE YOUR LOVE

As a feng shui consultant, I appreciate the symbols of love that Valentine’s Day surrounds us with. Hearts, hearts, and more hearts! I’d like to encourage my readers to remember that LOVE is essential to all beings on this planet. Be kind to your neighbors and your neighbors’ pets. Cherish your mom and your sister as much as your spouse. Valentine’s Day does not have to be for couples only. Spread loving kindness wherever you go and it will come back to you multiplied.

Check out this one-of-a-kind art piece necklace I created for one very lucky person. There will never be another one like it. Made from rare Venetian glass beads, Tibetan stone dZi beads, black glass and sandalwood Buddhist mala beads, and one vintage blue resin heart with scorpion embedded within:  Available at ArtBarn on Etsy:

YEAR OF THE MONKEY

It’s become a tradition at Feng Shui By Fishgirl to showcase the Chinese New Year art work of my dear friend PoPing Lo We’re celebrating the Year of the Monkey in 2016 and I think this particular PoPing illustration is wonderful. I thank the artist for allowing me to share it with my readers:

image1(May not be used or copied commercially without the permission of ©Po Ping T’so Lo.)

Here’s a little bit of what you can expect of the Year of the Red Fire Monkey (February 8th, 2016 up to January 27th, 2017.):

Although monkeys like to congregate in groups, success will come to those who break out from the pack and take risks that others won’t. This year it’s about individual efforts and putting action (the element of fire!) behind your wildest ideas. Innovation + Perspiration= Wealth this year more than ever.

Beware also the Tricksters in a Monkey Year. You know who they are. Deceitful people who charm you completely…then play you. They have one eye on your banana so they can grab it after misdirecting your attention to something unimportant. The message? Protect your bananas!

Ever hear of that saying “Not my monkey, not my circus”? This year is everybody’s monkey. Energy will be frenetic. Like a monkey jumping all around and swinging tree to tree and back again. It will be useful to become grounded in health and spiritual routine. Take time out for yourself and be still each day. There is an unpredictability to the world in a Monkey Year which makes it important to have something in your local personal sphere that is stable.  For example, if you’ve recently moved, don’t delay in unpacking and getting your home feng shui foundation stabilized. If you have let your exercise and diet go, try to get back into the groove again because there will be a lot of stress in a Monkey Year.

Happy #CNY2016 everyone! Kung Hei Fat Choi!

love, love, love

Valentine’s Day is represented by hearts. Look around you and there always is an explosion of heart symbols this time of year. I love this symbol of love and have hearts in the form of boxes, paintings, stained glass window hangings, and jewelry around my home to remind me of love. I don’t go overboard…balance is key to good feng shui. If you want to activate love in your life, locate your Love & Relationship sector of the bagua and add some hearts.
Love Power Hearts

Kung Hei Fat Choy! That means Happy New Year to you. January 31st rings in Chinese New Year. The beautiful illustration above was done by my dear friend Po Ping in Hong Kong. We’ve been friends for 36 years but who’s counting? See some of her previous illustrations by searching this blog for CNY posts.

The Year of the Horse comes galloping in with action and forward motion, so get ready for big changes in your life! You won’t have time to graze in your pasture until the holiday season at the end of this year. Whether you are an elegant show horse or a wild pony, you’ll have a prosperous year if you get off your butt and JUST DO IT! No excuses. Finish that project, meet that fitness goal, get a fresh start. This is the year you can make great strides in anything you set your mind–and your body–to.

Have you been wondering why there were no posts by fishgirl on this blog for a loooong time? Check out my other blog: going to goa to find out what happened.

LABOR OF LOVE: Feng Shui Your Space Over the Holiday Weekend!

What better way to spend Labor Day Weekend than by improving your home decor, re-energizing your spirit, and uplifting your feng shui? If you are ready for the Feng Shui By Fishgirl makeover challenge keep reading. You don’t have to spend a lot of time on it—just a few simple things will give you a tremendous boost and strengthen your feng shui.

*Take inventory of clutter bombs. What’s a clutter bomb? It’s a pile of clothes on your bedroom chair (washed or unwashed, it belongs in the closet or dresser or washbasket). It’s a stack of paper piles on every tabletop that belongs in your file or on one desktop. It’s a sink full of dishes, a bathroom overflowing with magazines or an assortment of nearly empty shampoo bottles. It’s ‘stuff’ everywhere you look. Open your eyes, see where you have clutter, and then give yourself 30 minutes to clear up as much of it as possible. Just that little bit of time will help you get back on track and feel so much more room opening up in your space. That clutter is blocking you and here is why.

*Giveaway pile. While you’re cleaning up the clutter bombs you might notice you have a stack of old magazines piling up. Find a nursing home or doctor’s office to donate them to. Were some of the clothes in the pile there because they haven’t been worn in a looooong time? Give them to charity orgs (many communities have collections for veterans or you can donate to Salvation Army).

*Raise some Cash. A quick way to make a few extra bucks is to have a yard sale. Put your unwanted stuff out and giveaway whatever doesn’t sell (just put a “free” sign out and see how fast it disappears!)

*Paint it red. Do you have boring white walls? Do you need a boost? You don’t have to paint an entire room. One accent wall or door in red color can lift your ch’i (energy) to new heights and won’t take a lot of paint. Try locating your Wealth, Fame, or Love sectors on the bagua and paint that wall for particularly good feng shui results. You might also try painting your toenails red for that personal lift 🙂

Happy Labor Day!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY USA 2012

We hold these truths to be self-evident….happy independence day from Deer Isle Maine! We are about to go check out our local July 4th parade but first we are installing a new billboard tarp over the leaking roof of the Art By Katy art studio. The billboard tarp is pretty darn cool. It’s a used advertising billboard and it’s 5 x stronger than a regular tarp so it should last longer. I had leakage and drywall damage over the winter in my gallery. It’s going to rain today after a scorcher of a hot weather streak. I’m armed with spackle and paint to redo the interior walls of the studio gallery. What are you doing today?

REDNECK WINE GLASSES

I found two of these in a local junktique shop and went searching online under “Redneck Wine Glass”. Sure ’nuff, several sites came up with suppliers of this hilarious novelty item. What is a Redneck Wine Glass? It’s a Mason Jar or a Ball Jar attached to a chunky glass stem–and the metal lid is still attached to the jar portion! I think these will make for a fun shui 4th of July table setting, don’t you?
