WALL O’ PLANTS

A curvy wall of live philodendron plants...

I saw the above pic at Apartment Therapy today and was stunned by what a brilliant idea it is. A solid wall of living plants! This one is particularly great feng shui because the shape of the leaves is rounded (philodendrons are easy to grow and to maintain their lushness) and also the wall installation is curved as well. Living plants boost ch’i energy and manufacture oxygen. My only comment is I don’t think it works in the bedroom. I’d like to see this used as a backdrop for the receptionist at a salon, spa, or office. In the home, it could be nice as a room divider between a sunroom and a kitchen. And of course, outside on the patio. Where would you use it?

MID-WINTER PICK-ME-UPS UNDER $20

Need something to remind you that springtime is just around the corner? I found this wonderful tea tray at Harbor Farm recently. It’s pretty and chi-ful and at $12.25 will not break the bank.

My favorite tea is the premium quality Jasmine Pearls that cost and arm and a leg in tea shops. Unless you have a secret source. I used to live nearby to Los Angeles’ Chinatown where I discovered I could buy my tea for half to a third less than the fancy retailers at the mall. Half a pound is $11.00.

Of course, with your tea you need some yummy tea biscuits. Get a dozen from Emily’s for $14.50. The ones shown here are made with green tea but they have other flavors, too.

I like these hand embroidered mini-napkins from Latin Works Co., perfect for tea time, made in Ecuador. Set of 6 on sale for $9.95. Sweet!

ARTSY OFFENBERG APARTMENT

Here’s some eye candy from the New York Times. This young “street artist” in Offenberg, Germany has truly personalized his space (see more photos) and Feng Shui By Fishgirl could definitely live there. I would tweak the bedroom a little bit to meet feng shui requirements: I wouldn’t push the bed of a grownup into the corner, best to have chi circulating all around, and I’d also like it better if it had some sort of headboard, a platform for the bed, and in general a more finished look to the room (side tables, lamp off the floor, etc for balance). It’s a little too “dorm room” as is and the overall effect of this home is very sophisticated.

But what I LOVE about this home is the use of art and color and the spare uncluttered feel that is NOT stark.

The pink bathroom is also wonderful. If your bathroom is in the Love & Marriage area you may want to consider this look.

All photos from the NYT slide show at this link. What do you like about this space?
